What to Expect and How It Works at Herbie’s Market
Four ways to enter and pay:
Scan in With Dining Dollars using the Transact Mobile App (minimum $50 balance required)
Scan in with Herbie’s Gift Card using the Transact Mobile App (minimum $50 balance required)
Scan in with Credit Card using the Transact Mobile App (a temporary $10 hold will be placed on your credit card)
Insert, Swipe or Tap using a credit card (a temporary $10 hold will be placed on your credit card)
Entering the store using a credit/debit card: it will automatically place a $10 hold on your card. If you make a purchase, once the transaction is settled this hold is removed. If you do not make a purchase the hold will be removed once you leave the store, but the timing for removal will depend on the customer's banking process.
Shopping process:
Grab what you want—Just Walk Out technology automatically tracks your items.
Change your mind? Put the item back in its original spot to remove the charge.
No checkout—just walk out! Payment is processed automatically.

Dining Dollar users:
Overdrafts result in a notification email on Monday.
Students must reload funds by Friday at 8 AM or the overdraft amount will be placed on your student account.

How can I pay for my purchases at Herbie’s Market?
Students may use credit, debit, or Dining Dollars to pay for purchases. Meal swipes are NOT accepted.
Do I need a minimum balance to enter?
Yes, students using Dining Dollars must have at least $50 on their card to enter the store.
How does the Just Walk Out (JWO) technology work?
The system associates your entry scan with your account and tracks your movement in the store.
Items you pick up are added to your virtual cart.
If you put an item back in the exact same spot, the charge will be removed.
If you place an item elsewhere, you will still be charged for it.
Is there a transaction limit?
Yes, there is a $100.00 limit per store visit.
Is there a limit on the number of customers in the store?
Yes, the store has a maximum occupancy based on the JWO technology. If the store is full, you will have to wait until someone exits.
What happens if the technology fails?
Customers inside the store will be asked to scan their items and pay at the register.
New customers may be allowed in depending on the situation.
What happens if I take more items than I have funds to cover?
Credit/Debit card users: You must resolve any payment issues through your bank.
Dining Dollar users:
If you overdraft, you will receive an email on Monday with instructions to reload funds.
You have until Friday at 8 AM to add more Dining Dollars.
If no action is taken, the overdraft charges will be placed on your student account.
What if I need help in the store?
